Biography
John Geib, Jr., a member of the Geib piano-making family, started in business in 1815. On October 3, 1817, he obtained the second patent ever granted to a resident of New York, covering improvements in the shape and structure of the upright pianoforte. By 1821 he was operating a piano business on the Bowery near Bedford Street.
