John Geib

pianoforte maker
Biography
John Geib was a practical pianoforte-maker, son of John Geib, Sr., the inventor of the grasshopper action, who arrived in New York fresh from London. Around 1805-1806 he formed a partnership with his brother, Adam Geib, trading as 'John & Adam Geib, pianoforte-makers, Mount Vernon.' The firm appeared in the 1807 city directory at Leonard Street near Broadway. John Geib evidently died before 1809, as his name disappears from the record that year, while Adam continued to operate from the same address for several years afterward.
