Biography

Justus Diehl bought out the interest of Mr. Klix in Henry Behning's piano firm in 1873, forming the new partnership of Behning & Diehl. Under this arrangement the firm moved in June 1875 to the corner of One Hundred and Twenty-fourth Street and First Avenue, becoming the first piano manufacturers to settle in Harlem. Diehl withdrew from the firm in 1877, after which Henry Behning, Sr. assumed sole control before bringing his sons into the business.
