Karl Michael Schröder

Biography
Karl Michael Schröder was born in St. Petersburg in 1828, son of Johann Friedrich Schröder, and inherited the family piano business on his father's death in 1852. Having studied with Erard and Herz in Paris, he applied what he had learned to build excellent grand pianos that found great favor with artists, bringing the firm into the front rank of European piano makers. His instruments won the highest honors at exhibitions, and he himself was decorated by the Emperors of Russia and Austria and the King of Belgium, and was elected a member of the Legion of Honor in recognition of his services. He died at Frankfort-on-Main on May 5, 1889.
