d. October 10, 1896, age 55

engineer vice-president scientist improver of the Estey organ Governor of Vermont
  • Estey Organ Company

Biography

Levi K. Fuller is described as a born scientist who did valuable service improving the Estey organ. A great reader and student well versed in acoustics, his collection of tuning-forks and acoustic apparatus, exhibited at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893, received a special award from the judges. Beyond his technical work, Fuller served as Governor of the State of Vermont and received numerous other public honors for his ability. The text characterizes him as ambitious and conscientious to an exalted degree, so much so that he habitually overworked himself, which the author says finally caused his untimely death on October 10, 1896, at age 55. A portrait with his signature accompanies the text. Fuller was engaged by Jacob Estey as an engineer in 1860 at age 19, having studied mechanics thoroughly enough to become highly valuable to the growing organ business. He was admitted to partnership, together with Estey's son Julius, and in 1866 became vice-president of the newly organized Estey Organ Company, with Jacob Estey as president.
