Loud
piano maker
Biography
Loud is named among the ablest piano makers of his era who struggled with the problem of a downward-striking action for square or grand pianos before giving up the effort as hopeless. The text illustrates a specific design, captioned "Loud's Downward Striking Action for Square or Grand Pianos, 1827," attributed to him. His attempt preceded the later, equally unsuccessful pursuit of the same idea by Henri Pape and Pape's pupils.
