Biography
Elder son of the founder of J. G. Irmler, Otto Irmler trained in leading piano shops of Vienna, Paris, and London before assuming management of the family firm with his brother Oswald after their father's death in 1857. Together they introduced steam-driven machinery into the works in 1861, said to be the first instance in the German piano industry. Otto Irmler died October 30, 1861, at the age of 41, leaving management of the firm to his younger brother Oswald.
