P. H. Powers

president founder
  • Emerson Piano Company

Biography

Patrick H. Powers, referred to in the text as P. H. Powers, joined O. A. Kimball and J. Gramer in 1879 to buy William Moore's interest in the Emerson piano business, originally founded by William P. Emerson, and became president of the newly organized Emerson Piano Company. Under his able management, Dolge writes, the business grew to commanding proportions, continually improving its product to maintain its position as a high-class instrument, and the company earned a reputation for integrity and reliability. Powers retired from active management in 1910 at the age of 84, capping a distinguished business career of some 60 years; he was succeeded in the presidency by Edward S. Payson, who had long assisted him as acting secretary. A portrait of Powers, captioned 'Sincerely Yours, Patrick H. Powers,' accompanies the text.
