co-founder of J. & P. Schiedmayer / Schiedmayer Pianofabrik
  • J. & P. Schiedmayer
  • Schiedmayer Pianofabrik

Biography

A younger son of Johann Lorenz Schiedmayer, Paul Schiedmayer devoted himself, with his brother Julius, exclusively to building harmoniums, spending time in London and Paris before the two established J. & P. Schiedmayer in Stuttgart in 1853. The firm turned to piano manufacture in 1860 as harmoniums lost market share, eventually becoming the Schiedmayer Pianofabrik. Paul Schiedmayer died in 1891, following his brother Julius, who had died in 1878. His son Max Schiedmayer later guided the firm. A portrait of Paul Schiedmayer accompanies the text.
