Pellisow

acoustics theorist

Biography

Pellisow is credited by Dolge, via Siegfried Hansing, with the doctrine that the ear does not perceive sound through so-called tone waves but because of the shock or jolt by which the sound is created. Hansing based his argument about the soundboard's true function on this proven doctrine of Pellisow's.

Highlights

  • Originated the doctrine, adopted by Hansing, that the ear perceives sound through the shock or jolt of its creation rather than through 'tone waves'
