Biography
Peter Provost was a New York piano maker who took second premium for a square piano at the Mechanics' Institute in 1837, the same year Torp & Love won the gold medal. He opened his own shop on Canal Street in 1835 and carried on a modest business there for a number of years before eventually drifting into work as a journeyman.
