Robert Stodart (of London)
English
piano maker
Biography
Robert Stodart was a London piano maker, son of the "original Stodart" of the historic English piano-making firm. His pianos were imported to New York beginning in 1819 by his nephew, also named Robert Stodart, though these high-priced instruments proved unable to compete with the cheaper imported pianos already on the American market, prompting the nephew to begin manufacturing in New York instead.
