Rossi

Italian (of Milan)

spinet maker

Biography

Rossi, of Milan, is credited with an improvement to the spinet's construction: about 1550 he began building spinets in which the keyboard was placed within the case, departing from Giovanni Spinnetti's earlier design, which had the keyboard outside the case. A photograph captioned 'Rossi's Spinet, 1550' is reproduced in the text to illustrate his work.

Highlights

  • About 1550, built spinets in Milan with the keyboard set within the case, unlike Spinnetti's original design with the keyboard outside the case.
