Biography
S. E. Clark, like Ira L. Grinnell, began his career in the sewing machine business before moving naturally into the piano trade, where he represented leading houses such as Steinway and Sons in Detroit with considerable success. In 1902 he entered into a combination with Grinnell Brothers, taking over management of the firm's branch stores. At that time Grinnell Brothers had six branch stores; under Clark's management this number grew to twenty-four.
