Samuel Campbell

Scottish (reportedly arrived from Scotland in 1783)

music dealer

Biography

Samuel Campbell was a New York dealer in music and instruments, listed at 44 Hanover Street. He appears in the first New York city directory, published in 1786, and in an announcement of that year advertised new music for German flute, harpsichord, and pianoforte, including a glee by Goldsmith, an overture by Rossini, and guitar solos. Spillane notes that, according to some accounts, this Campbell had only arrived from Scotland in 1783, making him a different individual from the Campbell mentioned earlier in connection with Captain Giles's wartime memoir.
