Samuel Hazelton
Biography
Samuel Hazelton took over sole control of the Hazelton Brothers piano firm after the deaths of the founders, Henry, Frederick, and John Hazelton, who were his uncles. According to Dolge, Samuel had enjoyed thorough training under his uncles before being made a member of the firm in 1881. He is credited with continuing the traditions and reputation the brothers had built for the Hazelton name among New York's established families, with the assistance of his own son, Halsey. No birth or death dates are given for Samuel in the text. From Spillane (1890): Samuel Hazelton, nephew of Henry, Frederick, and John Hazelton, became a member of the firm Hazelton Brothers in 1881. The text describes him as an expert and practised craftsman, trained not only in the mechanical side of piano making but also in the commercial methods necessary for the wholesale and retail piano business. At the time of the book's writing he constituted, along with his uncles Henry and John Hazelton, the firm of Hazelton Brothers.
