Sir Edward Poynter is named as the painter of 'The Wandering Minstrels,' the picture applied to the lid of the elaborate Steinway & Sons art grand piano built to Sir Alma Tadema's design for Mr. Marquand of New York. His painting formed part of a larger decorative commission, along with embellishments executed by Johnston Norman of London, that together took five years to finish.
