Stephen Brambach
Biography
Stephen Brambach supervised production of the Estey pianoforte, manufactured by the Estey Piano Company (formed in 1885, successor to the Simpson Piano Company, maker of the Simpson & Company piano that itself succeeded the discontinued "Arion" instrument). Spillane describes him as a gentleman of fine musical and mechanical sensibility, a member of a musical family -- his brother being "the celebrated German composer" of the Brambach name -- and originally one of the leading tuners in New York's chief piano shops. He originated all new mechanical and acoustic ideas applied to the Estey piano, and his patents connected to the instrument are noted as tabulated elsewhere in the book. Much of the technical and musical merit Spillane attributes to the Estey pianoforte he credits directly to Brambach's competency and skill.
