Biography
Theodore Marschall was a Bavarian by birth. After arriving in New York in 1851 he went into business with another piano maker, briefly forming Marschall & Locotte. He subsequently occupied the position of superintendent at Lighte & Bradbury until 1867, when he formed Marschall & Mittauer with a German-born partner. Marschall was described as practical and 'a very prominent inventor in his time,' whose skill contributed much to the excellent instruments the firm became noted for. Marschall & Mittauer operated until 1871, when it was succeeded by Boernhoeft and then by Hugo Sohmer & Company.
