Thomas C. Loud
b. July 12, 1812 · American
Biography
Thomas C. Loud, son of the inventor Thomas Loud, Jr., was reported by his own son to have been born in Philadelphia on July 12, 1812. He established a piano-making business at 305 South Tenth Street, Philadelphia, appearing in the city directory from about 1838 through 1854. Assisted by his father, Thomas C. Loud rebuilt the family's standing in the piano trade after the earlier collapse of Loud Brothers, conducting a very large business up to about 1848. Loud was born in Philadelphia on July 12, 1812, and was therefore American-born, in contrast to his father Thomas Loud, Jr. and grandfather Thomas Loud, Sr. His uncles were the 'Loud brothers' -- Joseph, John, and Philologus Loud -- also Philadelphia piano-makers. This lineage was confirmed to Spillane through correspondence with a member of the Loud family in Philadelphia.
