Vuillaume

violin maker (master builder)

Biography

Vuillaume is named in a passage where Dolge compares violin and piano virtuosos: just as violin virtuosos play instruments made by several master builders -- Stradivarius, Amati, Guarnerius, Vuillaume, Bausch, and Gemünder -- without confining themselves to one maker, piano virtuosos are likewise said to need not restrict themselves to a single brand of piano. No further biographical detail is provided about Vuillaume in this text.

Highlights

  • Named as one of several master violin builders whose instruments virtuosos play, cited by analogy to piano makers
