Biography
W. A. Conant, referred to by Spillane as 'the late,' was a piano-plate finisher who took unfinished castings from Davenport & Treacy's foundry to his own shop, where he drilled and finished them before supplying them to the piano trade. Davenport & Treacy held all of Conant's business, and later that of his successors, until 1884, when the firm began supplying piano manufacturers directly.
