Biography
W. H. Newton partnered with F. C. Lighte in New York to form Lighte & Newton, a firm noted for fine instruments and improvements. The partnership was augmented in 1853 by W. B. Bradbury to become Lighte, Newton & Bradbury. Newton subsequently withdrew from the firm, after which it continued as Lighte & Bradbury. At the time Spillane wrote, Newton was still alive but had left the piano trade.
