Biography
W. R. Farrand joined the Detroit organ corporation in 1883, the same year C. J. Whitney and E. S. Votey took it over, assuming its financial management while Votey handled manufacturing. When Whitney retired in 1887 the firm was renamed the Farrand & Votey Company, and after Votey's departure to the Aeolian Company in 1897 it became simply the Farrand Company.
