W. W. Whitney

partner piano maker
  • Boardman & Gray

Biography

W. W. Whitney is listed as one of the partners of the Albany firm of Boardman & Gray as it stood at the time of James A. Gray's death in December 1889. The house then comprised James A. Gray, his son William J. Gray, W. H. Currier, and W. W. Whitney. Whitney's presence in this roster indicates he had become associated with the firm sometime after its founding by William Boardman and James A. Gray in the 1830s, joining the next generation of management alongside Currier and the younger Gray. The text gives no further detail of Whitney's origins, training, or specific role within the company beyond his partnership standing in this late-1880s listing.
