Biography

William E. Nickerson started the 'Musical and Dramatic News' in 1877; it passed to the Lockwood Press, which sold it to Marc A. Blumenberg in 1881, when it was renamed 'Musical Courier.' Nickerson also started the 'Chicago Musical Times' in 1885, which C. B. Harger later developed after acquiring control in 1895. From Spillane (1890): Mr. Nickerson edited the Dramatic and Musical Courier, a leading music-trade weekly, from its founding in 1880 until 1885, when Otto Floersheim and Marc A. Blumenberg assumed control of the paper, by then known as the Musical Courier.
