Biography
William E. Strauch, born in New York in 1867, was a son of Strauch Brothers founder Peter D. Strauch. He studied at Packard's business college and spent two years studying action regulating and scale drawing under James and Holmstrom. In 1887 he entered his father's business, spending four years mastering practical action work before taking charge of the factories as superintendent. Like his brother Albert, he was an active member of the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen of New York and was elected its president -- reportedly the youngest man to hold that office in the society's 125-year history. From Spillane (1890): William E. Strauch, born in 1866, was a son of Peter D. Strauch and a practical piano and action-maker. He had control of the manufacturing department of the family firm, Strauch Bros., and became a partner in the business on January 1, 1890, together with his brother Albert T. Strauch. He was described, along with his brother, as popular in trade and social circles.
