Biography
William H. Ivers began manufacturing the pianoforte that became the Ivers, Pond & Company instrument in Boston in 1872. As the business grew he was succeeded in name by the firm Ivers, Pond & Company, while retaining a leading interest in it. Ivers was a graduate of the Chickering & Sons factory in Boston, where he was employed for a number of years before striking out on his own. Under his management the Ivers piano became known as a reliable instrument offered at a fair price. Spillane also notes that Ivers was an inventor of some moment, having patented many improvements to the piano since 1872.
