Biography
William Max Bauer was born in Chicago in 1870, the son of Julius Bauer, founder of Julius Bauer and Company. He attended the public schools and graduated from the Manual Training School of his home city at the age of eighteen. He then traveled extensively in Europe, and upon his return entered his apprenticeship in the piano factory founded by his father. The text describes him as endowed with an inventive mind and notes he had a leaning toward some further pursuit, but the passage is cut off at the bottom of the page before this is elaborated.
