Biography
William Pierson was a music teacher and instrument tuner active in New York in the mid-1770s. In 1775 he advertised from 'the sign of the Dial, Hanover Square,' offering instruction in vocal music and the harpsichord, and also offered to tune harpsichords and other musical instruments. His advertisement appeared in the New York Journal of May 14, 1775, published just weeks after the battles of Lexington and Concord, amid a paper otherwise filled with patriotic wartime notices.
