Wm. D. Parker
Biography
Wm. D. Parker of Meriden, Connecticut, employed by the Wilcox & White Company, applied on October 16, 1891 for a patent on an automatic piano; the patent was granted March 8, 1892. It covered a combination piano adapted for either manual or automatic operation, using a pneumatic operating mechanism controlled by a perforated music sheet, with the wind-inducing apparatus permanently built into the instrument's structure so as not to interfere with ordinary manual playing. This interior player mechanism was manufactured by the Wilcox & White Company of Meriden and sold to piano dealers under the name 'Angelus Piano Player,' distributed to dealers in cities including Boston and Philadelphia.
