Xaver Scharwenka

soloist (pianist) pianist

Biography

Xaver Scharwenka is named as one of the soloists—alongside Franz Rummel and Richard Hoffmann—who performed with Anton Seidl and the Boston Symphony Orchestra during their engagements at Chickering Hall in New York. The text gives no further biographical detail about him beyond this single mention of his role as soloist. Xaver Scharwenka was the pianist who, in 1901, used a Behr Brothers grand piano in a Philharmonic concert in New York City and on his subsequent concert tour through the United States, an event Henry Behr regarded as a great satisfaction toward his ambition of seeing his grand piano on the concert platform.
