Austin Jaquith, the piano technician behind Miami Valley Piano Tuning, began working on pianos as a shop assistant at the University of Houston while he studied music composition. There he learned tuning, regulation, and repair, and kept the practice rooms in tip-top shape. He soon was hired at The Piano Store (in Houston) as an assistant tuner where he primarily took care of floor tunings. When he moved to Bloomington, IN to pursue further studies in music composition, he kept in close contact with the IU tuning staff, and received additional mentoring in tuning, voicing, and regulation of concert instruments. During this time, he also maintained a private practice, Professional Piano Tuning and Service, for four years. In February 2021, Austin founded Miami Valley Piano Tuning. His clients include Chamber Music in Yellow Springs, The Springfield Museum of Art, The Springfield Symphony and many others. He has additionally assisted Doug Atkins tuning at Sinclair University. A lover of all things music, he teaches Theory and Composition at Cedarville University, is a recording engineer for the DPO and WDPR, and composes as time allows.
